What a Volvo needs from its battery
Volvo designs for Swedish winters, and the cars are very good at starting in the cold. Fifty degrees under a bonnet in Sharjah is a different test, and the battery is what gives first.
Battery type and size
Most modern Volvos take an AGM battery, usually H7 or H8, with H6 on the smaller models. Recent mild hybrids add a 48V battery to the 12V system. The rating is confirmed from the label or the VIN.
Worth knowing before fitting
Many stop/start Volvos have a small support battery in addition to the main one, and a worn support battery is a frequent reason stop/start stops working. On the current XC90 and several related models the main battery is in the boot.
