Choosing a battery for the Proton Compact
The Compact was built from 1996 to 2005, before start-stop was common, so most examples run a conventional maintenance-free battery. Age matters more than mileage on these cars: cables, terminals and the alternator are worth checking at the same visit.
Compact cars use smaller batteries with less reserve, so short trips with the AC running drain them faster. The good news is that replacement is quick and the batteries are easy to stock.
What a Proton needs from its battery
Depending on where the car was built, it may take a JIS battery such as NS40 or NS60, or a DIN size like H5. Most use a standard flooded battery. Send a photo of the label on the current battery and the technician will match it.
Terminal layout and post size are the usual catch on less common makes. A battery with the right capacity but reversed terminals will not connect without stretching the leads, which is not something to accept.
Send a photo of the label on your current battery, or the registration card, and we will confirm the exact specification before the technician leaves.
Battery brands for the Compact
We recommend by car and budget, and tell you plainly when a cheaper battery is the wrong choice for a start-stop engine.

Proton Compact battery questions
What battery does the Proton Compact use?
For the Compact we normally fit a maintenance-free flooded battery. Capacity and size vary with engine and year, so we check the label on the old battery or the VIN before bringing the replacement.
How long does a Compact battery last in the UAE?
In UAE heat a car battery typically lasts two to three years. Covered parking and a longer drive each week help it reach the upper end of that range.
Can you replace my Compact battery in a basement car park?
Yes. Our service vehicles fit standard basement height limits. Share the level and bay number and let security know a technician is coming.
Does the Compact need the battery registered after replacement?
This model does not normally need battery registration. The technician carries a diagnostic tool and checks for stored battery faults either way.
Battery trouble right now?
Send your location and car model. A technician is usually with you in 20 to 35 minutes.
No call-out surprises. You get the quote before we move.
