Choosing a battery for the Mazda RX-8
The RX-8 ran from 2003 to 2012. Later cars in that range often have start-stop and need EFB, while earlier ones use a standard battery, so the model year decides what we bring.
Coupés often sit for days between drives, and that is when a battery quietly discharges. If yours is a weekend car, ask us about a maintenance charger when we fit the new battery.
What a Mazda needs from its battery
Mazdas with i-stop usually need an EFB battery built for idle stop, commonly the Q-85 size, and some models take a larger equivalent. Cars without i-stop generally use a standard JIS flooded battery such as NS60 or 55D23L.
After a battery change on an i-stop car, the battery condition has to be reset in the car. Until that is done the i-stop light can flash and the system stays off. A normal flooded battery in an i-stop car does not last.

What battery does the Mazda RX-8 use?
For the RX-8 we normally fit a EFB battery. Capacity and size vary with engine and year, so we check the label on the old battery or the VIN before bringing the replacement.
How long does a RX-8 battery last in the UAE?
In UAE heat a car battery typically lasts two to three years. Covered parking and a longer drive each week help it reach the upper end of that range.
Can you replace my RX-8 battery in a basement car park?
