What a Mazda needs from its battery
Mazda builds efficient cars, and part of that efficiency comes from how carefully the charging is managed. It works well, but it makes the car fussier about the battery than its simple looks suggest.
Battery type and size
Mazdas with i-stop usually need an EFB battery built for idle stop, commonly the Q-85 size, and some models take a larger equivalent. Cars without i-stop generally use a standard JIS flooded battery such as NS60 or 55D23L.
Worth knowing before fitting
After a battery change on an i-stop car, the battery condition has to be reset in the car. Until that is done the i-stop light can flash and the system stays off. A normal flooded battery in an i-stop car does not last.
