Choosing a battery for the Renault Samsung QM5
The QM5 ran from 2008 to 2016. Later cars in that range often have start-stop and need maintenance-free flooded, while earlier ones use a standard battery, so the model year decides what we bring.
As an SUV it carries a larger battery than a small hatchback, and the AC and rear climate work hard in UAE traffic. We bring the full-capacity unit, not a smaller one that happens to fit the tray.
What a Renault Samsung needs from its battery
Korean cars use a mix of DIN and JIS sizes depending on model and year, commonly H5 or H6 on saloons and 80D26L on older SUVs. Most take a standard flooded battery. Versions with idle stop and go usually need AGM or EFB.
Because the same model can leave the factory with either a DIN or a JIS battery, the tray and clamp differ between cars that look the same. Newer models also have a battery sensor on the negative terminal that should be reconnected carefully.
