Choosing a battery for the Peugeot 405
The 405 was built from 1987 to 1999, before start-stop was common, so most examples run a conventional maintenance-free battery. Age matters more than mileage on these cars: cables, terminals and the alternator are worth checking at the same visit.

What a Peugeot needs from its battery
Most recent Peugeots with stop/start take an EFB or AGM battery in H5 or H6. Older models without it use a flooded battery of the same DIN footprint. The technician confirms from the label or the VIN.
When the charge is low, a Peugeot goes into economy mode and switches off the radio and other comfort functions to protect starting. After a new battery is connected, it is best to wait a minute or two before switching on, so the control units can wake up in order.
