Choosing a battery for the McLaren GTS

The GTS has been on sale since 2023 and is a current model. Cars of this age carry a lot of electronics, and most need a AGM battery matched to the factory specification.

As an SUV it carries a larger battery than a small hatchback, and the AC and rear climate work hard in UAE traffic. We bring the full-capacity unit, not a smaller one that happens to fit the tray.

What a McLaren needs from its battery

Most cars in this class take a large AGM battery in a DIN size, usually H7 or H8. A few recent models leave the factory with a lightweight 12V lithium battery. Specifications vary a lot by model, so the VIN is checked before anything is sent out.

The battery is rarely under the bonnet. It may be in the front luggage compartment, the boot or behind trim, and the lid release is often electric, so a flat battery can lock you out of the compartment that holds it. A battery conditioner is worth using on any car that sits for more than a week.

What battery does the McLaren GTS use?

For the GTS we normally fit a AGM battery. Capacity and size vary with engine and year, so we check the label on the old battery or the VIN before bringing the replacement.

How long does a GTS battery last in the UAE?

In UAE heat a car battery typically lasts two to three years. Covered parking and a longer drive each week help it reach the upper end of that range.

Can you replace my GTS battery in a basement car park?

Yes. Our service vehicles fit standard basement height limits. Share the level and bay number and let security know a technician is coming.

Does the GTS need the battery registered after replacement?

On most McLaren models of this age the battery management system should be told a new battery is fitted, and we do that on site. The technician carries a diagnostic tool and checks for stored battery faults either way.
