Choosing a battery for the Hyundai Matrix
The Matrix was built from 2001 to 2010, before start-stop was common, so most examples run a conventional maintenance-free battery. Age matters more than mileage on these cars: cables, terminals and the alternator are worth checking at the same visit.
As an SUV it carries a larger battery than a small hatchback, and the AC and rear climate work hard in UAE traffic. We bring the full-capacity unit, not a smaller one that happens to fit the tray.
What a Hyundai needs from its battery
Hyundai uses both DIN and JIS batteries depending on model and year. The Accent, Elantra and Tucson usually take H5 or H6, and older Santa Fe and larger models often take 80D26L. Cars with idle stop and go generally need AGM.
Some Hyundai hybrids have no separate lead-acid 12V battery. They use a 12V lithium unit built into the hybrid pack, with a 12V battery reset button near the steering wheel to wake it after it has gone flat. The VIN tells the technician which system the car has.

What battery does the Hyundai Matrix use?
For the Matrix we normally fit a maintenance-free flooded battery. Capacity and size vary with engine and year, so we check the label on the old battery or the VIN before bringing the replacement.
How long does a Matrix battery last in the UAE?
In UAE heat a car battery typically lasts two to three years. Covered parking and a longer drive each week help it reach the upper end of that range.
Can you replace my Matrix battery in a basement car park?

Does the Matrix need the battery registered after replacement?
