Choosing a battery for the Geely Uliou

The Uliou was built from 2004 to 2008, before start-stop was common, so most examples run a conventional maintenance-free battery. Age matters more than mileage on these cars: cables, terminals and the alternator are worth checking at the same visit.

Saloons like this are daily commuters, and stop-and-go traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road with the AC on full is hard on a battery. A test every spring catches a weak one before it strands you.

What a Geely needs from its battery

Most Geely models take DIN batteries, usually H5 or H6 on the Emgrand and Coolray and H6 or H7 on the larger SUVs. Turbo models with stop/start generally need EFB or AGM. The technician checks the label or the VIN.

The newer Geelys have a battery sensor on the negative terminal and a telematics unit that stays awake for the phone app. If the car is left for a couple of weeks at the airport, expect the battery to be low on your return.
