Choosing a battery for the Citroën ZX
The ZX was built from 1990 to 1998, before start-stop was common, so most examples run a conventional maintenance-free battery. Age matters more than mileage on these cars: cables, terminals and the alternator are worth checking at the same visit.
Compact cars use smaller batteries with less reserve, so short trips with the AC running drain them faster. The good news is that replacement is quick and the batteries are easy to stock.
What a Citroën needs from its battery
European cars use DIN batteries with recessed terminals, most often H5 or H6, with H7 on larger engines. Stop/start versions usually need EFB or AGM. Older cars without stop/start run a standard flooded battery.
The battery height matters on these cars because the hold-down clamp grips a lip at the base. Some older models also ask for a radio code after the battery has been disconnected, so it helps to have it to hand.

What battery does the Citroën ZX use?
